searching for movie data in file

Hi, I recently did a large project using an external firewire drive. Now whenever I open any project in fcp I get the message searching for movie data in file... See screen grab at www.beermattonline.co.uk/screen/screen.png Even projects that I haven't opened since I started using this file and which definitely don't reference this file. I don't think that this was a reference movie. If I plug in the drive with this file on the message goes away. It takes a while to open fcp and is annoying. I have trashed my preferences etc. and cleared my renders. I have read about this problem on creative cow etc. but none of the suggestions seem to work for me. Any ideas?
Regards, Matt.

This means that you have a QUICKTIME REFERENCE movie in your project. That is that you exported, at some point, a Quicktime movie, didn't choose the SELF CONTAINED option, but rather left it to reference already existing media. Then reimported it. And when a render file was no longer used and found its way to the trash, the QT reference movie then lost a file (or two) that it...referenced. Thus the error.

Find the QT reference movie in FCP and delete it.

Thanks for that Shane, I read that from you on Creative Cow too but I don't see how that can be. I am opening a project that I hadn't touched for several weeks before I even had the abba footage. The file it says it is looking for data from definitely isn't anything that I exported as a quicktime reference. If I open a new fcp project I still get this message. I don't have any recent projects in the open recent projects.
Any other suggestions?
Matt.
