Audio editing on FCP timeline
Posted by: Jason Roche (IP Logged)

Hello, I just switched to FCP and I'm having trouble editing audio on the timeline. Every time I add a music bed on tracks 3 & 4 it requires me to render the audio. What is up with that? It's not like I'm asking it to create an animated 3d effect! Can anybody help me?

Unless your audio is AIFF or WAV...48khz 16 bit stereo...FCP will require you to render it. Use Compressor to convert the audio to the proper format.

Brilliant! Thank you so much for the speedy reply! Now for what's probably a more obvious question, how do I use the compressor? (Or should I convert audio to WAV or AIFF before I import the files?)

Open Compressor. Notice the DROP ZONE? Drop the clip in there. Then in the SETTINGS area, under APPLE>FORMATS>AUDIO. Use the AIFF 48:16 option.

This is how you convert, so don't do it before you take into Compressor.

Or buy Digital Heaven's Loader, which does the sample rate conversion, as part of a drag & drop import. ;-)
